Police: Paducah 12-year-old in hospital after another child punched him in face

PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) - Police say a Paducah 12-year-old is under observation at a Nashville hospital after he was assaulted by another child Sunday evening.

The 12-year-old told police he and two friends were playing on the playground at Morgan Elementary School when another child walked up and punched him several times in the face.

Officer Nicholas Francescon reported the victim sustained visible cuts on his face, but his mother was present and declined medical treatment.

The victim told Francescon he knows the other youth only by a nickname, and that he has “never had any issues with him before.”

According to police, on Sunday evening, the victim reportedly began complaining of a headache and nausea, and his mother took him to Lourdes Hospital for treatment. He was transferred to a Nashville hospital, where he was admitted for observation, investigators said.

Paducah police to kick off 'Click It or Ticket' campaign

PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) - The Paducah Police Department will kick off the national "Click It or Ticket" seatbelt enforcement effort at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 21.

The police department says they will utilize a federal grant to pay for overtime to conduct both the "Click It or Ticket" and the "Operation Summer Nights" annual safe-driving campaign. While "Click It or Ticket" focuses primarily on seatbelt enforcement, the police department says they will emphasize other safe driving issues, including DUI saturation patrols of three to five officers focusing on DUI enforcement.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that when worn correctly, seatbelts are proven to reduce the risk of fatal injury to cars' front-seat occupants by 45 percent, and by 60 percent in pickup trucks, SUVs and minivans. Drivers are 75 percent less likely to be killed in a roll-over crash if they are buckled up, the NHTSA says.

MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - A Kevil man was arrested for stolen property after a police chase on May 17.

According to the McCracken County Sheriff's Department, a victim reported that their 1969 Ridgeline Aluminum boat had been taken from Old Mayfield Road. They say an investigation revealed that the boat had been taken to and scrapped at Garrett's Recycling on May 8.

Detectives determined that the person responsible for scrapping the stolen boat was Daniel J. Clayton, 39. The sheriff's department said they began searching for Clayton to question him about the stolen boat and learned that he was living on Old Ogden Landing Road in Kevil.

On May 17 around 10 a.m., detectives went to the home and talked to a woman there about Clayton's whereabouts when he was seen pulling into the home. Officers say Clayton saw them and quickly accelerated in obvious efforts to elude detectives.
