Tree trimming in Paducah may cause lane closures

PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) - The city of Paducah announced Monday the Paducah Power System will have crews trimming trees this week and next week.

The city says crews will be on Berger Road and Alben Barkley Drive between Kroger and Kennedy Road.

According to the city, residents can expect one lane of traffic to be blocked at times.

Send in your nomination for 2011 Distinguished Veteran Award

PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) - The Paducah Parks Services and the Veterans Day Planning Committee announced they are now accepting nominations for the 2011 Distinguished Veteran Award through October 14.

The Parks Department says the winner will be announced during Paducah's annual Veterans Day Parade on Friday, November 11.

For the award, the department says it is looking for candidates who currently live in McCracken County and continue to stay active and involved in the community. Anyone, male or female, who has served in any branch of the military may be nominated.

Nomination forms are available in the Parks Office or online at PaducahKy.gov.

According to the department, each letter of nomination should say why the person deserves the honor and how their service has made a difference in the community.

WKCTC begins Student Ambassador program

PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) - West Kentucky Community and Technical College announced 14 students have recently been chosen as student ambassadors to serve both WKCTC and the community through different service learning projects.

The chosen ambassadors include:

  • Ballard County – Heather Cartney and Dylan Green
  • Calloway County – David Moore
  • Graves County – Lacie Watkins
  • Livingston County – Brandi Bennett
  • Marshall County – Samantha Puckett and Darrin Thompson
  • McCracken County - Lauren Beane, Carolyn Cissell, Amber’Lee Douglas, Danita Fisher, Cheyanna Jude, Lindsey Lamb and Eric Youngblood

According to WKCTC, students have to adhere to a specific set of guidelines and requirements in order to be chosen for the program.

Man injured in motorcycle, pickup truck wreck

MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - One person is injured after a motorcycle, pickup truck crash on Lone Oak Road in McCracken County.

Charles Burton of Paducah was driving a 2009 Suzuki motorcycle north on Lone Oak Road in the turn lane and was struck by a 2004 Chevy pickup driven by Justin Keeling, 22, of Paducah, according to the McCracken County Sheriff's Department.

It happened around 6:50 a.m. Friday.

Keeling was trying to cross the road to go south on Lone Oak Road, did not see the motorcycle and pulled across the road, according to the sheriff's department.

Burton was taken to Baptist Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

2 car crash injures two people in Paducah

A 2-car crash Thursday in Paducah sends two to the hospital.

It happened around 3:45 p.m. on Lone Oak Road.

Police say Peggy Kemp of Paducah was driving a Ford Wagon southbound when she turned to go on the Dollar General Store parking lot. Police say Kemp pulled into the path of Ashley Burrow's Honda.

Kemp told police she never saw Burrow. Burrow was taken to a Paducah hospital with minor injuries. Her son, who was in the back seat, was also taken to the hospital to be checked out.

Police: Paducah woman swindled out of $800

PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) - Police say a  Paducah woman was swindled out of $800 by a person disguised as a Publisher's Clearing House agent.

According to the McCracken County Sheriff's Office, the person called and asked the woman for her name and zip code. When given the information the man told her she was a winner of $18.5 million, and then another agent would call her.

Police say another person giving the name "John Kennedy" told the woman he needed $800 to pay state. taxes. He told her to get two green money cards: one for $500 and another for $300, and then he would call her back in 2 hours.

The victim was asked for the credit card numbers when he called back, and told her he needed $1,500 more, deputies said.

Golf tournament raises more than $80,000 for Western Baptist's Foundation

PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) - Western Baptist Hospital announced their foundation's annual golf tournament Monday raised more than $80,000 in contributions and in-kind donations.

The hospital says the contributions and donations will go to help expand and enhance patient care services in areas including cardiology, neurology and neonatal care.

“We were extremely pleased with this year’s event,” said Laurie Latham, director of Western Baptist’s business and fund development. “We truly appreciate the support from all of our golf teams, sponsors, volunteers and donors. Funds raised will benefit the hospital’s patient care services, including the new Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.”

The fourth annual tournament hosted 50 teams at the Country Club of Paducah.
