Paducah Police warn of email scam

Paducah police are warning residents about a scam going around involving an alleged ticket from the state of New York.

Victims get an email that claims to be a Uniform Traffic Tickets from the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles. The subject line is usually "uniform Traffic Ticket."

The email instructs the recipient to open the attached zip file that contains a copy of the ticket to fill out and send to a town court. Investigators believe the file actually contains a computer virus. It's being analyzed by the New York State Police computer forensics lab.

If you get the email, you should not open it or the attachment. If you've already gotten the email and opened it, you should run your antivirus software.

Paducah police ask that you do NOT forward it to their department or the New York State police. Instead, just delete the email and empty your computer's deleted items folder.
