An airplane crash-landed on Bonds Road in McCracken County on Sunday.

At 1:32 p.m., deputies were dispatched to a reported plane crash in the 200 block of Bonds Road, just off of Hardmoney Road in the southeastern corner of McCracken County, police said.

The single engine 2 seat experimental airplane had just taken off from the Grow Air Park on Shemwill Lane.

According to the sheriff's office, the pilot and owner of the plane, Samuel Hodges, 47, of Dawson Springs, Ky. said he had just taken off and for unknown reasons the engine started to misfire. He was around 250 feet up when the engine stalled.

Hodges noticed water on the fields, so he attempted to land the plane on Bonds Rd. The plane hit a mailbox with its right wing after Hodges landed. This sent the plane toward the right side of the shoulder where a tree is close to the road.
