PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) - The last day for the public to swim at the Paducah pool will be Sunday, August 7.

The city says the pool will be closing for the season.

Paducah featured in "Where to Retire" magazine

PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) - Paducah has been chosen by "Where to Retire" magazine as a top retirement destination and will be profiled in a feature story.

The story, "8 Enticing Money-Saver Towns," will be in the September/October issue and will be available nationwide on August 23.

According to the magazine the list of eight towns includes:

  • Myrtle Beach, S.C.
  • Augusta, Ga.
  • Huntsville, Ala.
  • Paducah, Ky.
  • Shreveport, La.
  • Nacogdoches, Texas
  • Colorado Springs, Colo.
  • Logan, Utah

“The proximity to Barkley and Kentucky Lakes is a draw for some retirees, but the selling point is Paducah’s low cost of living. The town also is gaining recognition in the arts, with galleries, concerts and theatrical performances,” said "Where to Retire" Editor Mary Lu Abbott.

Launched in 1992, the magazine has a goal of helping its readers find the ideal place to retire.

Parks Services Dept. to host Paducah Regatta

Parks Services Dept. to host Paducah Regatta

PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) - The Paducah Parks Services Department has rescheduled the Paducah Regatta for Saturday, August 6.

The event will be at the Noble Park Pool. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. and the race starts at 10:30 a.m. A fee for the event will be $10 per boat.

Using cardboard and duct tape to build a boat, the goal is to race it across the pool without sinking. All supplies will be provided or you can bring a cardboard boat from home.

Participants are given a maximum of one hour to build their boat with all boat-building stopping at race time. All boats must meet certain rules and requirements.

Kevil couple arrested for marijuana

Kevil couple arrested for marijuana

KEVIL, KY (KFVS) - McCracken County deputies arrested a man and his girlfriend accused of selling marijuana out of their home.

It happened around 8 p.m. Tuesday on the 10,000 block of Oak Drive in Kevil.

Police found marijuana packaged for sale, Miracle Gro, Lortab, and other marijuana plants in a garden outside the house.

Police arrested Eric Dawson, 32, and Robin Kinsey, 28, at the home.

Dawson is charged with a Class C felony of growing marijuana.  This is he second offense.  He is also charged with trafficking pot.

Kinsey is charged with possession of a controlled substance and complicity to trafficking marijuana.

Dawson was taken to the McCracken County Jail.

Kinsey was released.

Paducah P.D.'s 2011 Citizens' Police Academy

Paducah P.D.'s 2011 Citizens' Police Academy

PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) - The Paducah Police Department's 2011 Citizens' Police Academy will kick off on Thursday, August 4.

The academy will start at 6:30 p.m. in the training room of department headquarters, located at 1400 Broadway.

The CPA was formed almost 11 years ago to give citizens a better understanding of the inner workings of the department.

During the academy, citizens will be exposed to some of the same training that police officers receive and watch presentations from the department's K9 units, bomb squad, SWAT team and others. They will also get to participate in a mock crime scene investigation and see the firearms range.

The CPA is on Thursday nights over 11 weeks. It is free to anyone 18 years old or older who lives in Paducah or the surrounding area.

Motorcycle driver arrested, found with marijuana

MARSHALL COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - A motorcycle driver was arrested on several charges Thursday.

Marshall County Deputy Steven Oakley pulled over the driver for a McCracken County warrant. 

Oakley placed the driver under arrest and asked to search the bike. Marijuana was found in the saddlebags during the investigation.

Mark Rupcke, 27, of Smithland was arrested on a warrant and for various charges including, possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, speeding, operating on a revoked license, no motorcycle operators license, and failure to notify address change to the department of transportation.

Rupcke was taken to the Marshall County Detention Center.

PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) - The Paducah Emancipation Celebration will be August 3 through 8 and will be hosted by the W.C. Young Community Center.

An events schedule for the celebration will include:
