Paducah police looking for robbery suspect

Police are looking for a man who robbed a Paducah store on Monday evening.

The suspect is described by police as a black male, around 6-ft. tall, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and a black mask.

According to Paducah police, A man robbed the Superway at 2535 Jackson St. Monday evening.

Police say a store employee told them a man came in the store's office around 9:11 p.m., pointed a gun at him and demanded the money he was counting.

The employee said he gave the man an unknown amount of money, and the robber left the store, police said.

Paducah man arrested for 3rd degree buglary

Paducah man arrested for 3rd degree buglary

PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) - A 38-year-old Paducah man was arrested Wednesday on a 3rd degree burglary charge.

According to the McCracken County Sheriff's Department, Shane L. Jones stole several items from the home of a deceased elderly women on May 31. Among the items were a hot water heater, air conditioner unit, and copper wiring.

At the time of the burglary, the home of Francis Reynolds was uninhabited. A neighbor notified the daughter of Reynolds, Betty Hawes, that she had seen a person enter the home.

A description was given to Hawes and she was able to identify Jones.

The Sheriff's Department believes Jones dumped the stolen items at a local recycling business.

Jones was booked into the McCracken Regional Jail.

Annual Cross River swim in Paducah

PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) - The Paducah Parks Services Department is hosting the annual Cross River swim on Saturday, July 23.

The event will be from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Swimmers will start on the Illinois side of the Ohio River and try to swim to the foot of Broadway in Paducah.

Trophies will be given to the top male and female swimmer and for the overall fastest swimmer.

You must preregister for the event at the Parks Services Department located at 1400 H.C. Mathis Drive and show proof that they can swim 1,000 consecutive yards.

Participants are asked to arrive at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday for the final instructions and rules.

Power outage knocks out traffic signals in downtown Paducah

PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) - The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says the traffic signals are back on in downtown Paducah after a power outage Thursday morning.

The Paducah-McCracken County Dispatch reported Thursday morning that a power outage in downtown Paducah knocked out several traffic signals in the area.

The traffic signals were out in the sections of US 45 Business/Kentucky Avenue from about Sixth Street down to the I-24 Downtown Loop/Third Street. It also included Broadway from Sixth Street down to the I-24 Downtown Loop/Third Street.

Other signals may also have been out in the area.

Drivers are asked to continue to use caution in the area.

Crews may still be working in this area as a follow up to the power outage.

The KYTC said preliminary information showed an underground transformer may have failed in the area.

PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) - Kentucky State Police are looking for an escaped inmate from the Keeton Correctional Complex in Paducah.

Police are looking for James A. Butler, 21, of Owensboro, Ky.

Butler is described as a black male, 5'5", 105 lbs.

Police say they were notified of the escape Thursday just before 8 a.m., but he could have escaped sometime overnight.

Butler could be en route to Owensboro where he has family.

Butler has prior charges of arson 2nd and wanton endangerment 1st.

Benton, Kentucky woman seriously hurt in crash

A Benton, Kentucky woman was fighting for her life at a hospital in Evansville Indiana Thursday morning.

Dedra Engel, 42, was injured in a car crash in McCracken County Wednesday night.

Deputies say Engel was southbound on Oaks Road when her car ran off the road, hit a metal culvert and flipped several times.

Engel was trapped inside the vehicle. Firefighters from Hendren had to cut the car apart to get her out.

A helicopter later flew Engel to a hospital in Evansville.

New leaders announced for seven local Latter-Day Saint congregations

PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) - Three new leaders have stepped up to lead over the seven congregations that make up the Paducah Kentucky Stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints for the next several years.

Masaru Okuda, assistant professor of Telecommunications Systems Management at Murray State University, is the new stake president. He has lived in Paducah with his wife and three children for five years. They came to the United States in 1983 to attend BYU Hawaii and have lived in the U.S. for the past 27 years.

Joseph C. Hirschi. a project manager with the Illinois Clean Coal Institute, has been named a first counselor to Okuda and also has the title of president. He and his wife Carol-Lynne have seven children and have lived in Marion, Ill.
