Paducah takes advantage of low interest rates

PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) - The city of Paducah says it has taken advantage of the low interest rates for the past 11 months by refinancing two city-issued bonds.

The city says it was told this week that the most recent bond to be refinanced will have an interest rate of 3.752 percent, which is more than two percentage points lower than when it was originally issued in 2004. The city says the interest rate reduction will yield a savings of almost $600,000 over the life of the bond issue.

“With an excellent bond rating of AA- combined with professional management in the City Finance Department, the City of Paducah has been able to reap fiscal benefits in this tough economy unlike many other cities and counties,” said City Manager Jeff Pederson.

The refinanced bonds were the 2001 bond issue to build the Expo Center and the Luther F.
