Paducah man faces assault, drug charges

MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY (KFVS)- A Paducah man is facing charges following a call for a disturbance in McCracken County on Wednesday.

According to the McCracken County Sheriff's Department, deputies find 53-year-old George A. Sledd and 43-year-old Pamela S. Elliot, both of Paducah, involved in an argument that had become physical.

Sledd was found to be under the influence and claimed he had smoked methamphetamine earlier that day.

After investigating, deputies found makeshift pipes with methamphetamine inside that he admitted to using.

Sledd was charged with 1 count assault 4th domestic violence, 1 county possession of controlled substance and 1 count of drug paraphernalia.

Elliot was also arrested on a warrant out of Hopkins County.

Paducah man arrested on felony theft charges

MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY (KFVS)- A Paducah man was arrested Wednesday on several theft and drug charges.

According to the McCracken County Sheriff's Department, deputies were dispatched to a harassment call in the area of Timberland drive just after 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

The victim said her boyfriend, Johnathan Mabry 31 of Paducah, was seen leaving her house even though he had been arrested for domestic violence and was ordered to not have contact with the victim.

The Sheriff's Office was told by the victim that Mabry left her house with her purse that had her wallet as well as a controlled substance and legend drugs that were prescribed to the victim.

Mabry was found at a relatives house at 5225 Reidland Road.

He had the victim's purse along with the narcotics.

Mabry admitted to going into the home and taking items that he and the victim had allegedly shared along with her purse.

MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - A Paducah man was taken to the hospital after officers say he went off the right shoulder of the road into a ditch because of a spider.

Around 12:40 a.m. on May 1, the McCracken County Sheriff's Office responded to the 4900 block of Clinton Road to a crash. Officers say Giddeon Pryor, 83, from Paducah was driving a 2003 Ford truck northbound on Clinton Road when he went off the right shoulder and down into a ditch where he hit a driveway culvert.

According to the sheriff's office, Pryor said there was a spider in his truck which caused him to lose control.

Pryor was taken by ambulance to the hospital.

'Learn to Knit' classes most Fridays in May

MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - The McCracken County Cooperative Extension Service will hold a "Learn to Knit" program most Fridays in May from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. each night.

Scheduled classes include:

  • May 3
  • May 10
  • May 17
  • May 24

The classes are open to all skill levels and each class will build on each other. The Knit and Pearl stitches will be practiced and at the end of the sessions a dish cloth will be made.

Those attending can bring a set of knitting needles (any size), a ball or roll of worsted yarn and note taking materials such as pen and paper.

The classes are free of charge.

PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) - The 18th Annual Mayor/County Judge Prayer Breakfast will be Thursday, May 2 from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. at the Paducah First Baptist Church.

This event is open to the entire community. You can join the group for a morning prayer in accordance with the National Day of Prayer. They have invited pastors from across the community to provide prayers for education, family, media, government and business.

In addition, Paducah native and former NFL standout Kurt Barber will serve as the guest speaker.

The event is hosted by the Oscar Cross Boys and Girls Club of Paducah.

DOE Citizens Advisory Board Chair to speak at May PIP

MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - Chair of the DOE Paducah Citizens Advisory Board, Ralph Young, will be the keynote speaker at the Paducah Area Chamber of Commerce’s May 9 Power in Partnership breakfast meeting.

The meeting will be Thursday, May 9 from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. at the Convention Center in the Ohio Room. It costs $15 for members and $25 for non-members. The RSVP deadline is Tuesday, May 7 at 5 p.m. You can call 270-443-1746 or info@paducahchamber.org to RSVP.

Young will also present the new book, “The Story of the Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant.” The book is a chronology of the history of the Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant and copies of the book will be available at the breakfast.
