McCracken Co. Schools to hold Poetry Out Loud competition Feb. 26 | Arts & Culture

MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - Students from Heath, Lone Oak and Reidland high schools will participate in Poetry Out Loud district showcase on Tuesday, February 26 at 6 p.m. at Maiden Alley Cinema.
Poetry Out Loud is a national recitation contest. The competition, presented in partnership with the Kentucky Arts Council, the National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation, is part of a national program that encourages high school students to learn about great poetry through memorization, performance and competition.
All three McCracken County high schools received a grant from the Kentucky Arts Council to participate in the Poetry Out Loud program.
The Poetry Out Loud competition begins at the classroom level. Winners advance to the school wide competition, with one student from each school advancing to the state-level competition. Kentucky's Poetry Out Loud competition will be held in Frankfort on March 12. The state winner will represent Kentucky in the national Poetry Out Loud competition in Washington, D.C.
