Paducah Christmas Cards on sale tomorrow

PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) - The City of Paducah 2011 Christmas Cards go on sale tomorrow, November 22nd.

The cards cost $6.00 for a package of 10. The watercolor card shows Santa Claus attempting to ice skate on a closed ice skating rink. The inside of the card says "Merry Christmas and Happy New Year."

The cards can be purchased at the Finance Department on the first floor of City Hall at 300 S. 5th Street between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. City Hall will be closed on Thanksgiving day and the day after Thanksgiving.

Parks Services Dept. accepting entry applications for Christmas parade

PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) - The Paducah Parks Services Department is accepting entry applications for the 2011 Christmas Parade.

The Christmas Parade will be Saturday, Dec. 3 at 5 p.m. in downtown Paducah. The parade will follow Broadway starting at 14th Street and ending at 2nd and Monroe where it will disband. The department says streets will be closed in the staging area starting at 3 p.m. Streets along the parade route will close at 4:30 p.m.

The theme for the 2011 Christmas Parade is "Do You Hear What I Hear?" with music and lighting required for all entries. The deadline to submit an entry application for the parade is Friday, Nov. 18. The department says entry forms received between Nov. 19 and Nov. 28 will be charged a $25 late fee. Entry forms received after Nov. 28 will not be accepted.

PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) - The McCracken County Extension Homemakers will host a holiday bazaar.

It will take place on Saturday, November 12th at the Robert Cherry Civic Center. It runs from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

There will be holiday crafts, ornaments, baked goods, stocking stuffers, cutlery, cookbooks, knitted items, flavorings, and note cards.

A meal of white beans with ham, cornbread, and pie will be served. It costs $5.00 for a meal.

Side dish recipe swap at recreation center

PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) - The city of Paducah announced residents can bring their favorite holiday side dish recipe to a recipe swap on Saturday, Nov. 5.

The recipe swap will be from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Paducah Recreation Center, located at 1527 Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive.

You can reserve your spot by calling the Parks Services Department at 444-8508. It costs $1 per person which the city says can be paid at the event or at the Parks office located at 1400 H.C. Mathis Drive.

The city asks that you bring 50 copies of your favorite recipe for distribution.

KSP offers trick-or-treating safety tips

(KFVS) - The Kentucky State Police are offering some Halloween safety tips for trick-or-treaters.

“Halloween is traditionally a time for children to have fun, but most often it is the children who can be injured by situations that are avoidable,” said Lt. David Jude, spokesperson for KSP. “Be sure your child’s costume does not obstruct their vision and is not so cumbersome that they can trip over it.”

Jude says on Halloween evening we're placing our children in probably some of the most dangerous traffic situations you could imagine.

Paducah symphony to host 2 shows in 1 night

Paducah symphony to host 2 shows in 1 night

PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) - The Paducah Symphony Orchestra will present two performances in one night.

On November 4th, members of the community are invited to "What Did Beethoven Hear?" It begins at 7:30 p.m. at Luther F. Carson Four Rivers Center. The "Father of the Symphony," Franz Joseph Haydn will explain Beethoven's music and narrate his life as it was in the 1700's. Fowler Black will play Haydn in the performance.

Before "What Did Beethoven Hear," Steve Schaffner and the Cape Girardeau Central High School Orchestra will be featured as November's Community Showcase Concert. It begins at 6:50 p.m.

Schaffner has been the orchestra director for 21 years. He has directed and performed all over the United States and in Canada, Japan, England, France, Switzerland, Germany, Italy, Austria, and China.
