PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) - The Fall Fest and Open House will be September 22 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The event will be at the McCracken County Cooperative Extension Service, located at 2705 Olivet Church Road.

Activites will include:

  • Cupcake walk
  • Fish pond
  • Craft center
  • Face painting
  • Fall picture scene/Antique tractor

Musical "Civil War Voices" at The Carson Center

Musical "Civil War Voices" at The Carson Center

PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) - The Carson Center will present a new musical, "Civil War Voices" on Monday, October 17th.

The show begins at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $18 for adults and $10 for students. You can buy tickets at the box office at 100 Kentucky Avenue or at The Carson Center's website. The box office is open Monday-Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

"Civil War Voices" follows the true stories of five people who lived through the war. The playwright, James R. Harris, said he found a diary kept by his great, great uncle, so he decided to do a little more research. Harris said he found other personal stories about the war.

Harris created the musical and said he hoped to capture the, "real people, the real songs, and ultimately the real heart of a country divided."

Art Guild of Paducah hosts events

Art Guild of Paducah hosts events

PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) - The Art Guild of Paducah will hold its monthly meeting on October 4th.

That meeting will take place at the Paducah School of Art at 409 Broadway. It begins at 6:00 p.m. and runs until 8:00 p.m.

Lee Trickey and John Kawasha will demonstrate ceramics and pottery techniques. The meeting is open to the public.

Then, on October 7th, the Art Guild will host its 2nd annual members exhibit. It runs from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Philosophy Gallery at 333 N. 9th Street in Paducah.

The artists will be at the exhibit to discuss their artwork with anyone interested.

Halloween short story contest deadline is Friday

Halloween short story contest deadline is Friday

PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) - The Halloween Short Story Contest for sixth through eighth grade students is Friday, September 16 at 5 p.m.

The free event is sponsored by the Paducah Parks Services Department.

The story must be about Halloween, typed and a maximum of 600 words. There is no fee to submit an entry; however, only one story per person can be submitted. The department says all stories must with the following phrase, "The moon was full and a mysterious fog crept up the path as the darkness of the night settled in."

You can mail or bring your story in to the Paducah Parks Services at H.C. Mathis Drive, Paducah, Ky., 42001.

WKCTC offers floral class

WKCTC offers floral class

PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) - The West Kentucky Community and Technical College announced their Workforce Solution will be offering a design class for beginners.

WKCTC says Beginning Floral Design will be offered at two locations starting in October. One course, four sessions, will be offered at the Skilled Craft Training Center in Hickory on October 4, 11, 18 and 25.

The other course will be at the Emerging Technology Center on the WKCTC campus on October 6, 13, 20 and 27.

Both courses will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. each night. They cost $85 for the four sessions.

According to WKCTC, the session topics include:

  • Session one - Introduction to design and bow making
  • Session two - Basic floral design step by step
  • Session three - Creating your own style
  • Session four - Choices for the holidays

The classes will be instructed by Joyce M.

Auditions for comedy play

PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) - The market House Theatre in Paducah will hold auditions for the play, The 39 Steps.

The auditions will take place Monday, September 12th, and Tuesday September 13th at 7:00 p.m. In the main theater.

The comedy, The 39 Steps, features only 4 cast members. One actor plays the hero, Richard Hannay. An actress plays the three women with whom he's romantically involved.

Foundation looks for students to join youth leadership program

PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) - The Leadership Paducah Foundation, Inc. has announced application forms are now available for the 2011-12 Youth Leadership Education and Development.

Youth L.E.A.D. is a program designed to develop and prepare students for future community support and leadership roles in Paducah and McCracken County. It targets high school juniors in Paducah Independent, McCracken County Public and the private school systems.

In the program, students will spend one day a month for five months learning about human needs and service learning, communication and career development, business and economy, law and government and health care in McCracken County.

“This program is very valuable for all students who are interested in gaining a better understanding of the foundation of this community," said Leadership Paducah Foundation President Joni Goodman.
