City of Paducah wins financial award for 21st year | Community Spirit
PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) - The City of Paducah has been awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for its Comprehensive Annual FInancial Report (CAFR).
This certificate is awarded by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA). It is the twenty-first year in a row Paducah has received the award.
Paducah Mayor Bill Paxton has said winning this award for the twenty-first consecutive year is something to be proud of. With so many cities around the country in financial breakdown, he believes Paducah's citizens should find it comforting to know Paducah is being well managed.
Finance Director Jonathan Perkins sees the award as a tribute to the hard work of Finance Department employees. The department is serious about keeping their work at the highest possible standard, this award shows they do.
The CAFR is a voluntary document gathered by the City to be submitted for review and grading. The award is internationally recognized and necessary for Paducah to maintain their S & P bond rating of AA-.
Paducah's CAFR cover has an artistic flare. SInce the early 1990s, the City has commissioned Paducah resident Janice Crosno for a pen and ink drawing of a site unique to the city. For the most recent report, Crosno sketched the front entrance of West Kentucky Community & Technical College.
Crosno's drawings for previous reports include Market House Theatre, Texaco station, and the Tilghman House Civil War Museum. All are framed and located in the Finance Department at City Hall.
