PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) - The Paducah Board of Commissioners has decided to put the removal of Duck Island in Noble Park Lake on hold and review the options.
An announcement was made Monday for city crews and a contractor to start the removal of the small island in Noble Park Lake. However, the project is on hold as city staff will provide the Mayor and Commission with several options for the island.
According to the city, erosion has greatly reduced the island. Also exposure to rain, snow, ice and other elements has led to the deterioration of the island’s small decorative building. The building’s windmill was damaged last winter.
“Instead of Duck Island being an item of beauty at Noble Park, it has become an eyesore,” said Parks Services Director Mark Thompson.
To remove the island, a small road will be built into Noble Park Lake allowing crews and equipment access to dig out the island. The city says the removal would take about one week.
