PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) - The city of Paducah hosted a groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate the expansion of the Greenway Trail Friday morning.
The Greenway Trail project will consist of approximately 8,800 linear feet of concrete trail that will be for pedestrian and cyclist use.
The trail will begin at Campbell's Street and stop behind the Smoke Shop on North 8th Street.
The project will also include two shelters, four benches, and signs along the trail.
Although the cost of concrete is more than asphalt, concrete requires less mantainance and will be cooler in the summers.
The Paducah Board of Commissioners authorized the contract on July 24, with the amount of $543,759 with the Wilkins Construction Company.
The stretch of trail is also being funded in part by the 2006 federal Transportation Enhancement Grant.
Future projects plan to expand and connect the current trail that is about 1.75 miles in length, and expands from Noble Park to County Park Rd.
