PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) - The River Discovery Center will be holding the Dragon Boat Festival on Saturday, September 22.

The festival, which is a new type of event in the area, will involve more than two dozen local teams racing in heats by paddling 40-foot long boats.

The races will kick off at 9 a.m. on September 22 and the Broadway entrance to the riverfront will be closed to traffic on Friday, Sept. 21 beginning at 4 p.m. to allow teams to set up tents on the road above and below Wilson Stage. The Kentucky entrance to the riverfront will close at 1 a.m. on Saturday blocking accessibility to the public boat ramp. Both entrances and the public boat ramp will re-open to the public at around 6 p.m. on Saturday after the awards ceremony.

The Dragon Boat Festival is free for spectators and proceeds from the team entry fees and sponsorships will go towards educational programs at the River Discovery Center.
