2012 Veterans Day activities in Paducah | Community Spirit

PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) - The City of Paducah announced three events to celebrate veterans in honor of Veterans Day.

Events include:

• Distinguished Veteran Reception:  The Paducah Parks Services Department and the Veterans Day Planning Committee will announce the 2012 Distinguished Veteran at a reception Thursday, November 8 at 1 p.m. at the American Legion, 425 Legion Drive, in Paducah. The recipient of the award is selected from names submitted to the committee. Nominees consist of anyone, male or female, who served in any branch of the military and who continues to be active and involved in their community. 
• Veterans Day Concert:  The Veterans Day Concert will be held at the Paducah Tilghman High School Auditorium on Sunday, November 11 at 5 p.m. The concert will feature the Paducah Community Band under the direction of Eric Allen, a Marine veteran and Paducah native. Allen has traveled extensively with the Marine Corps band. The Community Band is comprised of musicians, teachers, and students from Paducah and the surrounding areas. The concert is open to the public at no charge.
• Veterans Day Parade:  The Paducah Park Services Department and the Veterans Day Planning Committee invite the public to attend the Veterans Day Parade Opening Ceremony and Parade on Monday, November 12. An opening ceremony will begin at 10:30 a.m. at the gazebo at 2nd and Broadway. The opening ceremony includes the presentation of the 2012 Distinguished Veteran who will serve as the parade’s grand marshal. The winners of the Veterans Day Essay contest will be introduced, and the first place winners will read their essays for the crowd. The annual Paducah Veterans Day Parade will begin at 11 a.m. at 2nd and Broadway and travel along Broadway to 17th Street. Live coverage of the parade begins at 11 a.m. on Paducah-2 (channel 2 for Comcast subscribers) and will be re-televised on Government 11.
