MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - West Kentucky Community and Technical College is partnering with two local African-American churches for the third annual Super Sunday event on February 24.

Super Sunday is a statewide initiative to encourage African-American students to get a college education. WKCTC and each of the other 15 colleges in their system as well as the system office will collaborate with churches in their communities to host information fairs for prospective college students and their families.

WKCTC will sponsor Super Sunday on Feb. 24 at Harrison Street Missionary Baptist Church, 1126 Harrison Street and Ninth Street Church of Christ, 715 South Ninth Street.

Services begin at 11 a.m. at both locations. The information fair at Harrison Street will begin at 9:30 a.m. with church services to follow. The fair at Ninth Street will begin at 1 p.m. following the church services. WKCTC President Barbara Veazey will speak at the Harrison Street service and WKCTC Vice President of Student Affairs Belinda Dalton-Russell will speak following the Ninth Street service.

WKCTC representatives will be available following the services to talk with potential students and their parents about the admission and enrollment process, financial aid, scholarship opportunities, available programs and services, and any other additional educational information.

Of the total number of students who attended WKCTC in the fall of 2011, 8 percent were African-American students. WKCTC wants to further increase enrollment and Super Sunday is intended to support this mission.
