Kevil man arrested for stolen boat after police chase

MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - A Kevil man was arrested for stolen property after a police chase on May 17.

According to the McCracken County Sheriff's Department, a victim reported that their 1969 Ridgeline Aluminum boat had been taken from Old Mayfield Road. They say an investigation revealed that the boat had been taken to and scrapped at Garrett's Recycling on May 8.

Detectives determined that the person responsible for scrapping the stolen boat was Daniel J. Clayton, 39. The sheriff's department said they began searching for Clayton to question him about the stolen boat and learned that he was living on Old Ogden Landing Road in Kevil.

On May 17 around 10 a.m., detectives went to the home and talked to a woman there about Clayton's whereabouts when he was seen pulling into the home. Officers say Clayton saw them and quickly accelerated in obvious efforts to elude detectives.

PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) - Paducah police are asking for the public’s help identifying three men suspected of stealing debit card numbers from ATMs.

Det. Chris Baxter said the three suspects got the debit card numbers from local bank ATMs and used those account numbers to withdraw cash and make purchases at several area stores.

Baxter cautioned residents to be aware of any activity that might be deemed odd or suspicious when making ATM withdrawls

Anyone with information is asked to call the Paducah Police Department at 270/444-8550 or Crime Stoppers at 443-TELL. Tipsters also may text their tips to “CRIMES” (274637) by entering “KyTips” followed by their information, or by visiting the Crime Stoppers website at westkycrimestoppers.info.

Police say information leading to an arrest or indictment may result in a reward of up to $1,000.

MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - The McCracken County Sheriff's Department arrested a man after an investigation into the theft of gold jewelry and coins.

On April 23, officers began the investigation into the theft from 4870 Contest Road. They say they were able to find a person of interest, Joseph Fossett, 20, who also lived on Contest Road.

According to the sheriff's department, they discovered Fossett had recently sold gold chains that matched the description of those stolen from the victim at Easy Money Express on April 25.

Sheriff's detectives received a covert recording on Friday, May 3 of Fossett confessing to stealing the items in question from the victim's home. Also during the recording, they say they were able to determine that the coins taken from the victim were sold to Hoskins Coins on March 29.

Paducah police warning of 'scams'

PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) - The Paducah Police Department says several "scams" are operating in the area.

Police say one woman told them she has received two telephone calls in less than a week, in which she was told she has won large sums of money from a contest her husband entered. The woman told the police she has been widowed for 10 years.

According to police the second caller told the woman her husband had won money, but that she needed to buy and send to them a gift card to help pay a processing fee.

In the third scam, police say a man received a check for $4,685 from a corporation in Schenectady, New York, along with a letter telling him he is a prize winner in an international sweepstakes.

Residents are reminded to be extremely careful when dealing with such contacts, and to provide no personal information or money up front.

Police say residents should keep in mind, if it seems too good to be true, it probably is.

Paducah man cited for DUI after head-on crash

MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - A Paducah man is facing DUI charges after a head-on crash on Old Mayfield Road and Rosewood Drive.

Around 9 a.m. on Wednesday, April 10, deputies responded to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Old Mayfield Road and Rosewood Drive. They say it was reported that the two vehicles hit head-on and were blocking the road.

Deputies say the investigation showed that a 1996 GMC Pickup, driven by 36-year-old Dewayne L. Fike from Paducah, was south bound on Old Mayfield Road when he tried to reach for an item on the passenger side. They say Fike then swerved into the north bound lane and hit a  2001 Chevrolet pickup head-on. The truck was driven by 24-year-old Andrew D. Hobbs from Paducah

According to the sheriff's department, Fike was incapacitated due to his injuries and was taken to an area hospital with multiple, serious injuries.

Police: Employee helps thwart possible robbery at Paducah business

PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) - Paducah Police say an employee thwarted a possible robbery Monday afternoon at a south side Paducah business.

Paducah police were called at 4:30 p.m. Monday to a report of a robbery in progress at Easy Money Shoppe, 2801 Irvin Cobb Drive. When officers arrived, they say the store manager told them her co-worker had spotted a man coming around the side of the building, wearing a hoodie with a bandana covering part of his face, so she locked the front doors.

Police say the man tried several times to open the door, then ran back around to the side of the business.

They say the man was described as thin, wearing a black or blue hoodie and dark glasses, with a blue bandana covering the lower half of his face. He wore brown gloves. The employees said his skin was not visible, so it is unknown whether he was black or white.

The man is being sought for questioning, according to Det. Sgt. Brian Laird.

McCracken Co. deputies searching for boat, trailer reported stolen

MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - The McCracken County Sheriff's Department is asking for the public's help after a Paducah man reported a boat and trailer stolen from his property on March 7.

According to the sheriff's department, the man reported the boat and trailer stolen from his property on 8125 Old Highway 60. He says he last saw the boat on March 5 and that it was being stored on his property for the owner. The boat is valued at $1,200.

Deputies describe the boat as a 14-foot 1968 Polarkraft, bright green in color, with a Evinrude motor and black trailer.
