Farley man arrested after armed robbery investigation | Crime
MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - A Farley, Ky. man has been arrested after an armed robbery investigation.
Harold G. Collins, 29, was charged with first degree robbery and tampering with physical evidence.
On October 29 around 10:48 p.m., the McCracken County Sheriff's Department was dispatched to 3245 Old Benton Road to the Farley Citgo in reference to an armed robbery. While responding, deputies were told the armed man had shot a gun inside the business while committing the robbery.
While searching the area, officers found a vehicle parked under the Puryear Bridge. They say it was registered to Harold G. Collins. Officers say they noticed the engine was still warm to the touch, consistent with the vehicle not being parked for a long period time.
Officers say there was also a holster in the front seat of the vehicle that matched the size of the weapon used to rob the business.
Detectives on scene found a spent 9 mm round and cartridge that had been discharged during the course of the robbery along with other articles of evidence.
The sheriff's department said Collins became a strong person of interest. Detectives searched for Collins and continued with the investigation until about 6 a.m. Wednesday.
On Wednesday, Oct. 30, Collins contacted detectives and agreed to come to the sheriff’s department for an interview. Interviews were conducted with multiple people, including Collins.
Based on the evidence recovered throughout the investigation and witness statements, detectives arrested and charged Collins around 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
The sheriff's department said it is believed that Collins, after committing the robbery, was unable to get back to his vehicle parked under the Puryear Bridge due to the quick response by both the Paducah Police Department and the McCracken County Sheriff’s Department.
The investigation is continuing, along with the search for some specific items. If anyone discovers any discarded clothing on their property in the area of the Farley Citgo, they are asked to contact the McCracken County Sheriff’s Department.
