Kentucky tries campaign to raise traffic safety awareness

FRANKFORT, KY (KFVS) - Due to what is being called a dramatic increase in traffic violations and fatalities in the state of Kentucky, the Kentucky Office of Highway Safety (KOHS) is teaming up with local law enforcement officials for the "Blue Lights Across the Bluegrass" campaign.

KOHS director, Bill Bell, says law enforcement will be out in full force monitoring the roadways and citing those who are in violation of traffic safety laws. Officials will be cracking down all over the state of Kentucky, but special emphasis will be given to those areas of the state that have seen the most traffic fatalities and violations.

Some of the most common reasons contributing to traffic fatalities and accidents in the Bluegrass State include distracted driving, impaired driving, not wearing a seat belt or not wearing a helmet.

The campaign will run throughout the month of July.
