Paducah man arrested on criminal abuse charges involving 5-month-old

MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - A Paducah man was arrested on criminal abuse charges Monday, August 6 after an investigation involving a 5-month-old child.

Brian Baker, 29, is charged with first degree criminal abuse.

According to the McCracken County Sheriff's Department, on April 14 detectives began the investigation. They say the child was brought to Lourdes by EMS because she was unresponsive and not breathing. They say the child was stabilized and sent to a Louisville children's hospital on the same date.

During the investigation, detectives learned that the child had a fractured skull and retinal hemorrhaging. They say doctors advised the injury was near fatal and determined it to be non-accidental.

According to detectives, at the time of the injury, the child was in the care of Baker. On Aug. 6 he was arrested and taken to the McCracken County Regional Jail. The investigation is ongoing.
