Traffic stop in McCracken Co. leads to drug arrest | Crime
MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - The McCracken County Sheriff's Department arrested a man for numerous drug charges.
At approximately 8 p.m. on Thursday, October 17, detectives stopped a vehicle at 5132 Hinkleville Road.
Derek Belcher, a passenger in the vehicle, was taken into custody at that time for Trafficking Controlled Substance 2nd Degree, 2nd Offense.
An undisclosed amount of US currency was also seized as part of the investigation, as it was believed to be proceeds from illegal drug sales.
During a previous investigation, Belcher had sold Hydrocodone doses to the McCracken County Sheriff’s Department.
During a subsequent search of the vehicle, detectives located a quantity of marijuana that was concealed.
The driver of the vehicle, Ashley Burris, was cited to court for Possession of Marijuana.
During the investigation, it was learned that Belcher was on probation for Trafficking Cocaine at the time of the offense.
Detectives also learned that he was traveling between Paducah and Murray, staying in local hotels, and borrowing vehicles from friends to sell controlled substances.
Prior to Belcher’s arrest, he had left an area drug abuse class, and it was discovered that he had smoked marijuana immediately after leaving the class.
The investigation is ongoing and more charges against Belcher are expected.
