Paducah man allegedly tried to steal cell phone, threaten people with knife | Crime
PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) - A Paducah man was arrested Monday, July 8 after police say he tried to steal a cell phone and threatened several people with a knife.
Jeffrey S. Carpenter, 47, was charged with first degree robbery, second degree fleeing or evading police, alcohol intoxication, resisting arrest and second degree disorder conduct.
A Paducah police officer reported Carpenter was trying to keep a cell phone belonging to a woman living on the 600 block of Broadway. Police say he was also trying to cut her and two witnesses with a knife.
The woman and two witnesses told police they struggled with Carpenter and stomped on his hand to make him let go of the knife. Carpenter ran when the first police officer arrived on scene.
According to police, he ran about a block and hid in a bush. He then resisted officers' attempts to handcuff him. He was subdued and taken into custody. Police say the phone was returned and the knife was seized as evidence.
Carpenter was booked into McCracken County Regional Jail.
