McCracken Co. man charged for making multiple obscene phone calls to women | Crime
MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - A McCracken County man was arrested recently for making obscene telephone calls to multiple women in the area.
Brian D. Strawser, 53, was charged with four counts of harassing communications, for making obscene, blocked calls to four separate women. Deputies say there was also an outstanding arrest warrant served on him for leaving the scene of an accident.
The McCracken County Sheriff's Department began investigating a couple of weeks ago, complaints from a Paducah area woman who had been receiving multiple obscene telephone calls from a man whom would block his telephone number when calling. The sheriff's department said the man would make obscene comments and gestures to the woman.
Sheriff's detectives got telephone records from the telephone carrier in an attempt to identify where the calls were coming from.
Once obtaining those records, they additionally obtained records that contained telephone numbers of others that calls had been made to from this same telephone number.
In contacting numerous area women whose numbers had appeared on the records, detectives learned that these women had also in fact been receiving obscene telephone calls from a blocked number, during the same time frame as was specified in the telephone records.
Around 4 p.m. on Wednesday, detectives found the suspect who was identified as being Strawser at a location in downtown Paducah.
Deputies say he denied that he even owned a cellphone then requested an attorney, refusing to answer any questions.
Strawser was then arrested and charged.
Sheriff's detectives got a search warrant around 6 p.m. Wednesday for Strawser's home located in the 8200 block of Old Mayfield Road which is in the Fremont community of southern McCracken County. During that search, deputies say numerous items of evidence connected to this investigation was found and seized, including the cell phone belonging to the suspect that these calls were made from.
According to deputies, Strawser is a painter by trade and it is believed that he had met these women in part through him doing work either for them, or by other affiliations, or by meeting them in other situations. They say none of the calls were random in nature.
Detectives late Wednesday, continue to identify additional women that have received obscene telephone calls from Strawser, but that had just not been reported to authorities.
The investigation is continuing as the suspects cellphone records continue to be analyzed. Additional counts are expected as the investigation continues.
Strawser has previous convictions for harassing communications, possession of cocaine, and received a 15 year sentence for arson in 2007, and is currently on felony probation.
He was taken to the McCracken County Jail late Wednesday afternoon.
