Self-defense class offered for women

PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) - West Kentucky Community and Technical College will host a self-defense class for women.

The class will take place on January 28th from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. in the Emerging Technology Center.

Participants will learn how to protect themselves using the Pressure Point Control (PPCT) course, Sexual Harrassment and Rape Prevention (SHARP), and other devensive courses int eh PPCT family.

John M. Driskill will lead the class. Space is limited. The class costs $54.95. To register, just call (270) 534-3335.

Police: Paducah man arrested for falsely reporting robbery

PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) -  A Paducah man has been arrested after he falsely reported that he was robbed at gunpoint Monday.

According to the Paducah Police Department, Lonnie Norman, 56, told police he withdrew money from the Paducah Bank ATM on the lot of SuperValu, 2969 Jackson Street, around 5 p.m. Monday. Police say he told them two men came up behind him and one stuck a handgun in his side. He said the man took his cash and wallet and left on foot.

Police say as the detective investigated, he began to suspect that Norman had made up the robbery. They say that evidence did not support Norman's account of the robbery.

Norman was re-interviewed at the police department Thursday and police say he admitted to having lied about the robbery.

Norman was arrested on a warrant charging him with falsely reporting an incident. He was booked into the McCracken County Regional Jail.

Two arrested in month long marijuana investigation

WEST PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) - Two West Paducah men face drug charges after a month long investigation into marijuana trafficking.

Jerry Gray Jr., 25, of West Paducah is charged with trafficking in marijuana under 8 ounces, 2nd or subsequent offense (five counts each) and trafficking in marijuana 8 ounces to 5 pounds, 2nd or subsequent offense.

Jeffrey Crass, 29, of West Paducah is charged with complicity to trafficking in marijuana 8 ounces to 5 pounds.

Over the past month, detectives made numerous marijuana purchases from Gray Jr., according to the McCracken County Sheriff's Department.

During the investigation, detectives say Gray Jr. kept his marijuana at a "stash house" on Cunningham Road in West Paducah.

Gray Jr. was arrested Jan. 4 in the parking lot of a business at 5021 Hinkleville Road around 6:30 p.m.

MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - Three people were arrested on drug charges after an undercover sting operation on Tuesday night.

Christopher D. Ware, 29, of Bowling Green was arrested on charges of complicity to trafficking marijuana over eight ounces.

James B. Weatherspoon, 25, of Paducah was arrested on charges of  complicity to trafficking marijuana over eight ounces, second or subsequent offense.

Nurse accused of taking patient's meds

Nurse accused of taking patient's meds

PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) - A nurse at a nursing home is accused of taking medication prescribed to one of her patients.

Lisa G. Helton, 40, of Paducah is charged with theft of controlled substances.

Helton was a registered nurse with Superior Car Home at 3100 Clay St.

Paducah Police say she took 12 5-mg Norco pain killer tablets there were supposed to be administered to a patient Tuesday night.  She was supposed to be in charge of the residents' medication cart.

Helton was fired from Superior Care Home just before her arrest.

Drug and Vice Enforcement Unit detectives arrested Helton just before 2:30 p.m. Thursday.

Helton was booked into the McCracken County Regional Jail.

Deputies find fugitive hiding in attic

PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) - The McCracken County and Marshall County Sheriff's Departments found and arrested a man that has been on the run from the law for drug related charges for the last several months.

Daniel Burgess, 23,  was arrested and charged with failure to appear for sentencing for trafficking meth in Marshall County and fugitive charges (bench warrant) from Livingston County.

Natosha Archer, 20, was also arrested and charged with hindering prosecution or apprehension.

The McCracken County Sheriff's Department says earlier this year, Burgess, of Paducah, was arrested for trafficking meth, along with other drug charges. They say he then failed to present himself to be sentenced for charges.

Detectives with both departments say they saw Burgess outside his home on Schneidman Road. Two approached the home in an attempt to arrest Burgess on his outstanding warrants. They say when Burgess saw the marked police car, he ran inside the home.

West Paducah man, woman arrested after child abuse investigation

PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) - The McCracken County Sheriff's Department says a West Paducah woman and her boyfriend were arrested Monday following a child abuse investigation.

Marion "Marty" Lassiter-Miller, 30, was arrested and charged with first degree child abuse, which is a class c felony punishable by five to ten years.

Robert "Robbie" Wigginton, 28, was arrested and charged with first degree criminal abuse, a class c felony punishable by five to ten years.

The McCracken County Sheriff's Department and Social Services were called to investigate the possible physical abuse of an 8-year-old boy in West Paducah.

During the investigation it was disclosed that the mother's boyfriend, Wigginton, was physically abusing the boy and causing cruel punishment as well as cruel confinements. Police say it is believed the mother, Lassiter-Miller, allowed it to happen on several occasions.
