4 arrested on escape, drug charges in McCracken Co.

MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - The McCracken County Sheriff's Department arrested four people December 10 on various escape and drug-related charges.

On Dec. 10, deputies responded to 355 Mark Drive in the Lone Oak area on a tip from the Kentucky State Police that escapees from Calloway County were likely at the home.

Deputies spoke with the homeowner who gave consent to search it. The sheriff's department says they found several individuals in a back room of the home. Deputies say the individuals were guests of a family member of the homeowner.

PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) - Paducah police say they broke up a gambling operation Tuesday afternoon and arrested two men accused of running the illegal setup.

Dewey D. Griffin, 63, from Calvert City was charged with first-degree promoting gambling and possession of marijuana.

Jimmy C. Jackson, 70, from Kevil was charged with first-degree promoting gambling.

Robert W. Cruse, 71, from Paducah was charged with second-degree promoting gambling.

According to police, Griffin and Jackson are accused of profiting from the gambling operation, which was located in a storefront in a small strip mall at 2517 Bridge Street.

Detective Sergeant Brian Laird said the gambling house apparently had been operating in the location, which appeared to be a vacant store, since late spring. Laird said detectives began receiving tips about illegal activities there and began investigating in mid-summer.

MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - The McCracken County Sheriff’s Department executed seven search warrants around 6:30 Friday morning at Lone Oak Manor Apartments.

The apartments are located at 650 College Avenue in McCracken County. Police say nine individuals were charged with various drug offenses as a result of the investigation.

Over the course of the last several months the Sheriff’s Department says they responded to numerous complaints of alleged drug activity, complaints of theft and suspicious persons on the property of the Lone Oak Manor Apartments. In an effort to suppress some of the problems, detectives with the drug division conducted an investigation that resulted in obtaining search warrants for seven different apartments on the property.

MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - An Illinois woman faces charges after sheriff's deputies say she tried to pass a fake prescription at a McCracken County pharmacy on Monday.

Tina Rice, 52, of Brookport, Ill. is charged with attempt/obtain substance by fraud.

A pharmacy called the McCracken County Sheriff's Department after receiving a suspicious prescription for Tina Rice. A pharmacy employee called the physician's office to verify the precription and learned it was fake.

Detectives found Tina Rice at the pharmacy.

She had 120 doses of 10mg Norco pills that she had just received from the pharmacy, according to the sheriff's department.

Deputies seized the pills.

Detectives say Rice told them that she had fraudulently passed a prescription to the pharmacy.

She was arrested at the pharmacy and taken to the McCracken County Jail.

Rice is also on probation in Illinois for the same type of offense.

MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - Another teen has been arrested in connection with a burglary in McCracken County.

Calvin Bingham, 19, was charged with a Class D felony, receiving stolen property (firearm). He was taken to the McCracken County Regional Jail without incident.

According to the sheriff's department, on Dec. 5 detectives continued pursuing a missing gun that had been stolen from a home on Geibe Road and had not yet been recovered. They found a person of interest, Bingham, on the afternoon of Dec. 5.

Detectives say they got a confession from Bingham that he had one of the stolen guns that had been removed from the home and directed detectives to a north Graves County home where the gun had been hidden. They say Bingham admitted that he knew the gun, a .44 caliber revolver, was stolen.

They say Bingham told them he had intentions of selling the gun, but had not yet found anyone that wanted to buy it.

MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - The McCracken County Sheriff's Department is searching for an unknown individual that allegedly deposited a stolen $125 check into a Reidland bank account while posing as someone else.

According to the sheriff's department, on Nov. 11, Lori Pearson from Murphysboro, Tenn. reported that on Oct. 11 an unknown individual deposited a $125 personal check into her US Bank checking account. Pearson told officers the check was written to her and deposited at the US Bank in Reidland. The sheriff's department says it was determined the check, which was deposited into Pearson's account, had been stolen from an individual in Evergreen, Colo.

Officers say a further investigation revealed that the day before, on Oct. 10, a personal check in the amount of $325, which had been stolen from an individual in Memphis, Tenn., had been written to Pearson's name and cashed at the Draffenville, Ky. US Bank.

Kentucky State Police, Post 1, covers the 11 counties of Ballard, Calloway, Carlisle, Fulton, Graves, Hickman, Livingston, Lyon, Marshall, McCracken and Trigg. 

In 2012 there have been 56 people killed in fatal collisions in the Post 1 area. Of those who died, 28 were not wearing a seatbelt and five were not wearing a helmet.
