New Date for the Paducah Marine Industry River Cleanup Challenge

PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) - The 7th annual Paducah Marine Industry River Cleanup Challenge will be held Friday, June 7 at Schultz Park (river side of the floodwall, behind the Quilt Museum).

Lunch will be served from noon to 1 p.m., followed by a short safety briefing. Teams will be taken to different clean up sites up and down the river banks surrounding Paducah. Organizers hope to fill one sand flat with thousands of pounds of trash by the end of the event.

Gloves and trash bags will be provided, as well as your Marine Challenge t-shirt. Depending on the weather, volunteers should wear long pants and old shoes or boots. (Be ready to get muddy!)  Some life jackets are available, but volunteers are urged to bring their own if they have them.  For added safety, The Coast Guard will have boats on site and EMT's will also be present.

2013 Paducah-McCracken County Spring Clean Up Day set for April 13

PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) - The annual Spring Clean Up Day for Paducah and McCracken County is Saturday, April 13 from 7 a.m. until 2:30 p.m.  The clean up day is a free service, rain or shine.

The event, commonly referred to as dump day, is an opportunity to dispose of solid waste and household hazardous waste.  All residents must bring proper identification, such as a driver’s license, to verify residency. 

Spring Clean Up Day is held at the CWI Transfer and Recycling Station on Burnett Street and on the adjacent parking lot of the Paducah Public Works facility on North 10th Street.

Items that will be accepted at Spring Clean Up Day include household trash, white goods, tires, household hazardous waste, ammunition, expired or no longer needed prescription medications, and recyclables.  No medical waste or commercial waste will be accepted.

Housing Authority of Paducah hosts lead safety class

Housing Authority of Paducah hosts lead safety class

PADUCAH (KFVS) - The Housing Authority of Paducah is hosting a lead safety class for contractors and individuals at its training center located at 2330 Ohio Street.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Certified Renovator lead safety class will be held from 7:45 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday, July 27.

The class fee is $250 and is due no later than class time. The fee includes textbooks and class supplies.

This EPA accredited course explains how to comply with EPA's Renovation, Repair, and Painting Rule.

After passing the end-of-course exam, students receive RRP Certificates allowing them to comply with the RRP Rule.

This training is required for contractors involved in any construction activity that has potential to contact lead-based paint.

WKCTC to host Best Green Energy Solutions conference

WKCTC to host Best Green Energy Solutions conference

PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) - The Best Green Energy Solutions Conference will be held at West Kentucky Community and Technical College on May 3.

The conference is part of Project Going Green, a joint effort by West Kentucky Community and Technical College and the Plumbers and Steamfitters Union Association Local 184. This project provides training in green awareness systems, plumbing, and heating, ventilation and air conditioning.

Speakers will include:

  • Bob Spermo - American Institute for Building and Performance Standards
  • Tyson Viniard and Gerald Guiling - Stargaze Energy
  • Alan Clark - Palmer Wahl
  • representatives - Flexsure, a division of Gastite

Additional speakers will include representatives from the State of Kentucky Renewable Energy Office and WKCTC.

The event will be held from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Emerging Technology Center on the WKCTC campus.

Watershed Watch project looking for volunteers

PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) - Four Rivers Watershed Watch is looking for people interested in helping with stream quality surveys on streams, rivers, and lakes throughout the region.

West Kentucky Community and Technical College will be a project site on Saturday, April 28, in Waller Hall 203.

Watershed Watch encourages everyone to learn about their waterways because the condition of streams and rivers is an indicator of the health of our water and communities, project officials said. Volunteers will receive free training necessary to scientifically explore the water quality of their neighborhoods
