3 high schools to participate in "Poetry Out Loud" contest | Events
(KFVS) - Three McCracken County schools have been selected to participate in the Poetry Out Loud National Recitation Contest.
The contest is sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation.
The selected schools are:
- Reidland High School in Paducah
- Heath High School in West Paducah
- Lone Oak High School in Paducah.
Officials say this is the seventh year of the program, which encourages high school students to learn about great poetry through memorization and recitation.
Twenty-one high schools in Kentucky were selected to participate.
The winner of the Ky. state finals, held in March 2012 in Frankfort, will receive $200 and an all-expenses paid trip to Washington, D.C. to compete in the national championship.
Last year, officials say more than 300,000 students participated in the program in 50 states, five US territories and the District of Columbia.
