Paducah Parks Services Dept. hosts 'Movies in the Park'

PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) - The Paducah Parks Services Department will hold Movies in the Park on Thursday, July 26 at the amphitheater in Noble Park.

The movie, "Cars 2" (rated G, 106 minutes long), will start at dusk around 8:30 p.m. The movie is free.

Concessions will be available for purchase. For comfort, the department recommends attendees bring lawn chairs, blankets and insect repellent.

Dollar Day, Fun Day activities at Noble Park scheduled for Saturday

PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) - The City of Paducah will be offering Dollar Day at Noble Park Pool on Saturday, July 21.

Dollar Day is in coordination with the George Wilson SAFETY Foundation's Family Fun Day in the Park. General admission to the pool will be just $1 per person. The pool is open Saturday from noon to 6 p.m.

The city says Noble Park will be a haven for kids on July 21 with the Youth Triathlon in the morning and the Family Fun Day in the Park during the afternoon. The triathlon will be from 9 a.m. to noon with the events for the Family Fun Day from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Family Fun Day activities include an obstacle course, face painting, inflatables, music, basketball games, zumba, and plenty of food and ice cream. Activities will be going on at various shelters around the park, the city asks that you please use caution when driving through the park as hundreds of kids are expected to participate.

Parks Dept. offers ART Explosion Camp

PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) - The Paducah Parks Services Department will be offering another session of the ART Explosion Camp, a camp for kids five to 12 years old.

The camp will be Monday through Monday, July 23-27 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Paducah Recreation Center located at 1527 Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive. The registration fee is $65 per child. Lunch is provided through the Federal Food Program.

Organizers say all supplies are included/ Pre-registration is required by Friday, July 20 at 5 p.m. by calling the Parks Services office at 444-8508 or by registering online at www.paducahky.gov. A minimum of four students are need to hold the class.

2nd annual family day in the park scheduled for Saturday

PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) - The 2nd Annual George Wilson S.A.F.E.T.Y. Foundation Family Day in the Park will be Saturday, July 21.

The event will be from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Noble Park, 2801 Park Avenue. The foundation says they will be hosting 1,000 plus families at the event. It will have health screenings, tournaments and activities for children that include:

  • Health screening
  • 3 on 3 basketball tournaments
  • Family obstacle course tournament
  • Jungle gyms
  • Face painting
  • Live music
  • Zumba
  • Door prizes

Students to try scuba at underwater astronaut camp

Students to try scuba at underwater astronaut camp

PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) - Fifteen middle school students from around the country will participate in the Challenger Learning Center at Paducah’s Underwater Astronaut Camp on July 26.

The CLC has once again partnered with Mermet Springs in Vienna, Ill., to teach kids the basics of scuba and how to train underwater like real astronauts.

The students, ages 11 to 14, are from McCracken, Marshall, Calloway, and Carlisle counties as well as Johnson County, Ill., New York and Oklahoma.

According to West Kentucky Community and Technical College, divers from Mermet Springs will spend the morning teaching the students how to use scuba equipment and getting them comfortable in the water. In the afternoon, students will rotate to five different underwater stations where they will participate in various challenges such as working with tools and gloves that astronauts use when training for a space mission.

The scuba camp will be held at the Paducah Athletic Center.

Bike Rally to bring thousands of motorists to western Ky.

(KFVS) - The Kentucky Bike Rally will bring around 15,000 motorcycle enthusiasts to the Union County Fairgrounds in Sturgis from July 19-22.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet are urging drivers in western Kentucky to take caution around the motorcycles this week.

Rally participants usually cruise around the back roads of western Kentucky and southern Illinois during the event; along US 60, KY 109, KY 56, KY 91 and Illinois Route 13.

KYTC says minor delays along US 60 in the Sturgis area are expected at the peak travel times.

Paducah Pediatrics kid's triathalon

MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - Paducah Pediatrics will have a kid's triathalon to show children exercise can be fun and rewarding.

The triathalon will be Saturday July 21 at 9 a.m. at Noble Park in Paducah, Kentucky. There will be events for kids ages 7-14. The event uses a non-competitive format and there will be achievable distances for kids of all levels of athletic ability.

Advanced registration is due on July 19 and costs $25. Registration the day of the event will be $35.

Every finisher receives a commemorative T-shirt, medal, and bib number. Trophies are awarded to the top 3 boy and top 3 girl finishers in each age group. The event includes food and a recognition ceremony afterwards for each triathlete.
