PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) - Lourdes has announced that Mark Desmond has been named to the position of Vice President-Mission Integration at Mercy Health Partners. 

“Mark's initiative, energy and commitment to our Mission and Core Values will be welcomed across MHP – Kentucky,” says Steven Grinnell, Lourdes President and Chief Executive Officer.  “Our organizations and communities will be enriched by his gifts.”

Desond comes to Lourdes from Cincinnati where he served as the Vice President, Mission Integration and Foundations for Catholic Health Partners.

KDPH names Baptist Health 'HeartSafe Community'

 

PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) - Baptist Health Paducah has been named a "HeartSafe Community," by the Kentucky Department of Public Health for its quick response to cardiac arrests.

McCracken County is the fifth Kentucky county named a HeartSafe Community by the Cabinet for Health and Family Services and the Kentucky Department for Public Health.

"This award lets people know they are entering a HeartSafe community when they come to McCracken County,"  Baptist Health Paducah nurse practitioner Deborah Welsh said.

Baptist Health Paducah employee retires after 46 years

PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) - A longtime Baptist Paducah Health employee is retiring.

Certified Pharmacy Technician LaDon Gamblin was the longest-serving current employee with 46 years of service.

According to BHP, the worked for every pharmacy director since the hospital was established.

Gamblin says she now plans to travel, garden and spend time with family.

BHP adds new emergency physician

PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) - Baptist Health Paducah has announced the addition of an emergency physician.

Emergency department physician Gerald Russell, M.D., has recently joined the medical staff.

Dr. Russell is a graduate of Delta State University and the University of Mississippi School of Medicine. He has 24 years experience in emergency medicine.

Also, Dr. Russell  is returning to the Baptist team of Emergency department physicians, following experience as the medical director of the Jackson Purchase Medical Center Emergency department.

He joins a medical staff of approximately 265 physicians, representing 43 medical specialties.

McCracken County earns HeartSafe Community honor

PADUCAH, KY (KFVS)  — McCracken County is the fifth Kentucky county named a HeartSafe Community for its quick response to treat cardiac arrests.

The Cabinet for Health and Family Services and the Kentucky Department for Public Health (DPH) will present the award during the annual stroke awareness luncheon at Baptist Health Paducah on Tuesday, May 14.

The Cardiovascular Coalition, a group of employees from Baptist Health and other providers, including Mercy EMS, were instrumental in McCracken County’s designation as a HeartSafe Community for response to cardiac arrests.

“The Emergency department and local EMS work together to provide a prompt response to cardiac arrest,” said coalition member Deborah Welsh, R.N, APRN, for Neurology Specialists at Baptist Health. “This award lets people know they are entering a HeartSafe community when they come to McCracken County.”

Lourdes Paducah 'Iron Mom Half Marathon' to be May 11

PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) - The third annual Lourdes Paducah Iron Mom Half Marathon is Saturday, May 11, with a start time of 6:30 a.m. 

According to race organizers, the co-ed event starts and finishes along the floodwall near Schultz Park. 

More than 860 runners from 14 states are registered to participate, an increase as compared to previous years.  The deadline to register is noon on Wednesday, May 8. 

City of Paducah Human Resources Director Cindy Medford, Rehab Associates, Lourdes Hospital, and Family Service Society are organizing the annual running event which involves a half marathon (13.1 miles) for individuals and for two-person and four-person relay teams.  Lourdes Hospital is the title sponsor for the race.

Baptist Health Paducah wins national award for ad campaign

PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) - Baptist Health Paducah has received a national award for an advertising campaign.

The award was for the “My Heart Belongs to Baptist" campaign.

BHP officials say they received a silver award in The 2013 Aster Awards, an elite competition recognizing the nation’s most talented healthcare marketing professionals for outstanding excellence in advertising.

According to Baptist Health, launched the campaign in the summer of 2012.

All contest winners are posted on the Aster Awards website.
