MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - The McCracken County Sheriff's Department reports two injured in a crash at the intersection of US 62 and KY 1322 on Thursday.
The sheriff's department says at 12:56 p.m. deputies and emergency crews responded to an injure accident at the intersection of US 62 (Blandville Road) and KY 1322 (Harris Road).
Deputies say an investigation revealed that a 1998 Nissan Maxima driven by 23-year-old Darrin Cooper of Vienna, Ill. was traveling west on Blandville Road when he started to make a left turn onto Harris Road. According to deputies, this particular intersection is a very dangerous section of road with limited visibility from all directions. When Cooper turned, deputies say he turned in front of eastbound traffic and was hit head-on by a 2006 Buick Lucerne driven by 82-year-old Henry Hammonds of Lovelaceville.
The sheriff's department says the force of the crash sent Hammonds' car down an embankment where it came to rest in a grassy area.
The department reports Hammonds and his wife, 80-year-old Rachel, were treated and taken to Lourdes Hospital for what appeared to be serious, but non-life threatening injuries.
According to the sheriff's department, Cooper and his passenger, 28-year-old Aubruy Bradford of Paducah were not injured in the crash.
The Concord Fire Department helped with emergency care at the scene. The sheriff's department says Blandville Road between KY 286 and Harris Road was closed for about one hour.
