KSP: Car overturns ejecting passenger, driver inside car for 5 hours | News
PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) - Kentucky State Police are investigating a deadly crash that happened early Tuesday morning in McCracken County.
Just after 7 a.m., troopers were called to the scene of the crash on John Puryear Drive near the intersection of Old Husbands Road. According to KSP, a preliminary investigation showed that at about 1:30 a.m., a 2001 Oldsmobile, driven by 35-year-old Shane Crooks, was southbound on John Puryear drive when, for reasons unknown, he left the right side of the road.
KSP says Crooks tried, but was unable to regain control of his car. They say the car overturned multiple times, ejecting an unrestrained passenger, 30-year-old David Willhelm.
Police say Crooks was inside of the overturned car for about five hours before freeing himself and contacting police.
Crooks and Willhelm were both taken to Lourdes Hospital where Willhelm was later pronounced dead. Police say Crooks and Willhelm were McCracken County residents.
The Kentucky State Police were helped at the scene by the McCracken County Sheriff’s Department, McCracken County Coroner's Office, and Mercy Regional EMS.
According to KSP, the investigation is ongoing by Master Trooper Christopher Anderson and Trooper Brian Duvall with the Kentucky State Police.
