Names released of 2 killed in 4-vehicle wreck on I-24 | News

PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) - Two people were killed in a four-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon on the Interstate 24 bridge over the Ohio River.

The McCracken County Coroner says Jessica Caroe, 26, and Robert Storrs, 30, died in the crash.

Storrs’ identification listed an address of Durham, NC, but he apparently originally is from Florida. Caroe’s address was listed as Houston, TX.

James M. Hoerman, 60, of Antigo, WI was driving a 2000 Freightliner west in the outside lane of I-24 when he approached traffic stopped and/or slowed in both westbound lanes due to the wreck on the bridge. The McCracken County Sheriff’s Department is investigating that crash.

Hoerman’s truck apparently drifted toward the inside lane, and it clipped the passenger side mirror of a Toyota Tundra that was slowing in the inside lane, according to the Paducah Police Department. The Toyota was driven by Charles Arney, 65, of Olive Branch, Ill.

Hoerman’s truck then hit the rear of a 1998 Honda Shadow motorcycle stopped or slowing in the outside lane, throwing both riders from the bike. Paducah Police say the tractor-trailer continued westbound, swerving into the inside lane. It missed two vehicles in front of the Toyota Tundra, but hit the rear of a tractor-trailer rig in front of them. That rig was a 1987 Peterbilt driven by Jeremy L. Wuels, 31, of Carlisle, Ill.

The driver of the motorcycle and his passenger were pronounced dead at the scene by McCracken County Coroner Dan Sims. 

Both Hoerman and Wuels were taken to Western Baptist Hospital. Hoerman sustained scratches to his hands; Wuels complained of pain to his left arm.

The crash is being reconstructed by the Paducah Police Department’s Accident Reconstruction Team.
