MCCRACKEN COUNTY, IL (KFVS) - A vehicle stalled because of an empty fuel tank caused a chain reaction and four-car crash on the I-24 bridge in McCracken County, Thursday, July 12.
At 4:18 p.m. Thursday, the McCracken County Sheriff's Department responded to a stalled vehicle driven by Troy D. Risely, 33, of Paducah.
The sheriff's department says Lindsey W. Morris, 41, of Golconda, Ill, was driving westbound and swerved to miss the stalled vehicle. They say Morris was hit from behind by a semi and trailer operated by Karen L. Barela, 52, of Clearwater, Fla. which forced Morris' vehicle to hit Risely's vehicle.
Barela's tractor trailer then swerved and hit another semi-trailer driven by Lanell Brooks of St. Louis, Mo.
According to the sheriff's department, the only injury reported was to Lanell Brooks, who was taken to an area hospital for treatment of his injuries.
The road was closed for an hour and 30 minutes while the crash was investigated.
