2-car crash on Brookport bridge sends 3 to hospital

MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - A mother and her children were taken to the hospital Tuesday after police say an 18-year-old rear-ended their car while they were stopped for a hearse.

Around 10:46 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 7, the McCracken County Sheriff's Department says they received a call for an injury accident on Brookport bridge.

According to deputies on the scene, Michael A. Graham, 18, of Brookport was driving a black 1996 Jeep Cherokee southbound on Paducah-Brookport Road, crossing the Brookport bridge. They say when Graham approached southbound traffic that was stopped on the bridge due to a hearse traveling northbound, he was unable to stop before hitting the rear of a tan, 2003 Buick Lesabre driven by 26-year-old Melissa S. Watts of Brookport. Watts' two children, a four year old and a 1 year old, were also in the car.

The sheriff's department says Watts and her two children were treated at the scene by Mercy Regional EMS for possible injuries and were taken to Western Baptist hospital. They say the roadway was restricted to one lane for about one hour for the investigation and the cleanup of the collision.

The McCracken County Sheriffs Department was assisted on scene by Mercy Regional EMS, Concord Fire Department and the Paducah Fire Department.
