PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) - The Paducah Police Department's Bomb Squad responded to Clark Street on Monday after a man found what appeared to be an explosive device in the trunk of his mother's car.
Officers arrived at the 2900 block of Clark Street around 8:52 p.m. The man told police he was cleaning out the car trunk when he found what looked like a pipe bomb.
Sgt. Steve Smith said all the residents of that block that could be contacted were evacuated. Smith said the bomb squad used its robot to remove the item from the trunk and to open one end of it. He said there was no explosive materials inside.
"He did exactly the right thing by backing off and calling us," Smith said. "How it (the item) ended up in there, we don't know."
Police cleared the scene around 11:30 a.m.
