KYTC awards contracts for road repair on interstate routes in 3 Ky. counties | News

MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has awarded contracts for projects to provide much-needed repair of asphalt pavement on interstate routes in three Kentucky counties.

According to KYTC, the largest of the three is a $14.84 million project for a 13-mile section of Interstate 24 in McCracken County. The project area begins near mile point 3 and extends to mile point 16. Jim Smith Contracting Co., of Grand Rivers, was awarded the contract, which calls for work to be completed by Sept. 30, 2013.

KYTC says work on the project is likely to start in March.

The Kentucky Highway Plan contains funding for pavement rehabilitation on numerous roadways in need of repair. Several rehabilitation projects have been done this year with two or more being prepared for bid letting in January and still others throughout 2013.

Other rehabilitation projects awarded by the Cabinet in November include:

• Jefferson County – I-265 (Gene Snyder Freeway) from mile point 30 to mile point 35. Hall Contracting of Kentucky was awarded the contract for $5.96 million. Completion date: Aug. 1, 2013.
• Rowan County – I-64 from mile point 134 to just past mile point 138. Hinkle Contracting Co. was awarded the contract for $4.05 million. Completion date: July 31, 2013.
