Ballard Co. resident named first WKCTC Student of the Month for 2013 | News

PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) - West Kentucky Community and Technical College announced the first Student of the Month for 2013, Ballard County resident Dylan Green.

Student of the Month winners are selected during the academic year between September and July. November begins the New Year for Student of the Month winners. Green said the timing couldn’t be better.

“This fall is my last semester at WKCTC," he said. "I transferred to Murray State University (MSU) and begin classes in January, so being named Student of the Month is an awesome way to end my time at WKCTC."

Green will graduate with an Associate of Science degree in May 2013 and will continue his education in pre-physical therapy and athletic training at MSU this fall. After graduation from MSU, he plans to pursue a doctorate degree in physical therapy and a master’s degree in athletic training at the University of Kentucky. While at WKCTC, Green has been a student ambassador, a member of Phi Theta Kappa and TRIO Student Support Services. He is also WKCTC's nominee for the 2012 All USA Academic Team. He has been a student worker in various campus areas including the bookstore, human resources office, financial aid, advising and the Wellness Center.

“Dylan’s instructors praise his leadership in class discussions, enthusiasm, active participation, grades and outstanding attendance,” said Dr. Belinda Dalton-Russell, WKCTC vice president of student affairs. “He is a dedicated student, full of good humor and a great role model."

Green is grateful for all the support from WKCTC faculty and staff and will use his experiences at the college to help him be successful in the future.

“The faculty and staff have always backed me and encouraged me to be the best I can be," Green said. "I have learned so much about myself and what I can accomplish if I just put my mind to it. But I’ve also been reminded of the importance of helping people. I will continue to reach out and help others in both my career and in life.”

The Student of the Month program is designed to recognize the accomplishments of students on campus.  Individuals selected must be currently enrolled at WKCTC and have maintained a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or higher and are nominated on the basis of exceptional performance, personal attributes, academic excellence and active participation in various studentorganizational activities.

Student of the Month winners receive $100, a certificate of excellence, recognition in the college’s newsletter, Facebook page, campus announcements, and Web site.
