Deputies warning of over the phone tax refund scam | News

PADUCAH, KY (KFVS)- McCracken County deputies want to warn the public that someone pretending to be from the IRS could be trying to get their personal information.

Deputies say they were alerted to the scam by a would-be victim.

According to deputies, someone calls potential victims claiming to be from the Internal Revenue Service, and offers tax refunds if the victim provides a bank account number.

The IRS says they never ask for personal information over the phone, and anyone who gets a call from someone asking for personal information should contact local law enforcement.
