Lourdes announces Mark Desmond as Vice President-Mission Integration

PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) - Lourdes has announced that Mark Desmond has been named to the position of Vice President-Mission Integration at Mercy Health Partners. 

“Mark's initiative, energy and commitment to our Mission and Core Values will be welcomed across MHP – Kentucky,” says Steven Grinnell, Lourdes President and Chief Executive Officer.  “Our organizations and communities will be enriched by his gifts.”

Desond comes to Lourdes from Cincinnati where he served as the Vice President, Mission Integration and Foundations for Catholic Health Partners.

Baptist Health Paducah President and CEO Larry Barton to retire

PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) - President and CEO of Baptist Health Paducah, Larry Barton, will retire in October after overseeing more than two decades of expansion and progress in local healthcare.

“Without question, my 21 years at Baptist Health Paducah have been the most rewarding of my career,” he said.

Barton’s retirement is effective Oct. 4, 2013, according to his letter to Stephen Hanson, CEO of the Baptist Health system headquartered in Louisville.

“Larry consistently has responded to the needs of Western Kentucky residents with advanced technology and significant investments in quality services,” Hanson said. “He is dedicated to patients’ needs, never forgetting that how we treat patients is just as important as the tools we use to deliver that care. Fortunately, Paducah and its surrounding communities have been blessed with a strong focus on both these needs under Larry’s leadership.”

Paducah hospital names new human resources director

MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - Baptist Health Paducah recently named Kal Keitel as the new executive director of human resources.

Keitel has served as the director of people services at St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham, Ill., since 1987. Previously, he was employment manager at St. Nicholas Hospital in Sheboygan, Wis., from 1981 to 1987. He has extensive experience in talent management and acquisition, policy and procedure administration, employee and labor relations, workers’ compensation, employee development and compensation.

He holds a bachelor of business administration in human resources management from the University of Wisconsin. He has served as a grand ambassador for the Effingham Chamber of Commerce and past president of the Central Illinois Healthcare Human Resources Association.

He succeeds Don Brown, who is retiring after 23 years’ service.

Paducah hospital nurses honored for compassionate patient care

PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) - Lourdes congratulated their nurses for receiving special recognition during National Nurses Week.

The nurses include:

  • RN of Year - Leslie Grant, RN, 4th floor. Grant has been with Lourdes for 11 years.
  • LPN of Year - Jessica Eaves, LPN, Float Pool. Eaves has been with Lourdes for nearly three years.
  • Legend of Year - Viola Belmont, RN. Belmont has been with Lourdes for 41 years and is an Education Specialist with Nursing Administration.
  • Mentor of Year - Travis Drake, RN, Float Pool. Drake has been with Lourdes for nearly three years.
  • Rising Star - Courtney McClintock, LPN. McClintock has been with Lourdes for six months and works with the Rehab Unit on the 8th floor.

MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY (KFVS) -Heath High School senior Kristi Street and Lone Oak High School sophomore Diane Ikome were selected to receive the Strawberry Hills Pharmacy scholarship to attend the McWhorter School of Pharmacy Bulldog Pharmacy Camp on the campus of Samford University.

Bulldog Pharmacy Camp provides an opportunity for high school students to learn about health careers in pharmacy.

BHP adds new emergency physician

BHP adds new emergency physician

PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) - Baptist Health Paducah has announced the addition of an emergency physician.

Emergency department physician Gerald Russell, M.D., has recently joined the medical staff.

Dr. Russell is a graduate of Delta State University and the University of Mississippi School of Medicine. He has 24 years experience in emergency medicine.

Also, Dr. Russell  is returning to the Baptist team of Emergency department physicians, following experience as the medical director of the Jackson Purchase Medical Center Emergency department.

He joins a medical staff of approximately 265 physicians, representing 43 medical specialties.

Library media center named for Paducah doctor

Library media center named for Paducah doctor

MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY (KFVS) -  McCracken County Public Schools and Dr. Laxmaiah Manchikanti of the Pain Management Center of Paducah have partnered to name the library media center at McCracken County High School.

The McCracken County Board of Education entered into a five year agreement valued at $25,000 for naming rights to the library media center, which will be known as Manchikanti Library.

"I am honored to have the opportunity to support the educational endeavors of McCracken County Public Schools," said Dr. Manchikanti. "I believe it is an obligation to assist education across the globe. It is part of my overall strategy to help improve education, which goes hand in hand with my development of schools in India and supporting 1,300 students along with providing scholarship support to many students over the years."
