Paducah hospital awards local middle schools for winning walking challenge

PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) - Heath Middle and Paducah Middle schools received cash prizes in a walking challenge issued by Kohl’s Cares and the Baptist Health Foundation Paducah.

First-place winner Heath Middle received $2,250 during an awards luncheon in the Baptist Heart Center auditorium on Monday. Heath, with 158 students in the challenge, logged 16,938 miles. Paducah Middle won $1,500 for having 228 students log 13,546 miles. The cash prizes were funded by a Kohl’s Cares grant and foundation board member Ronnie James of James Marine Inc.

School officials are required to use the funds to purchase equipment or resources to enhance their health and physical education programs.

PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) – The West Kentucky Community and Technical College honors and graduation ceremonies will play on the college’s access channel.

The graduation ceremonies held Tuesday night at the Luther F. Carson Four Rivers Center can be seen on Public Access Channel 2 on Wednesday, May 22 at 5:30 p.m.

The honors ceremony held in the WKCTC Clemens Fine Arts Center on Monday, May 13 can be seen on Channel 2 on Thursday, May 23 at 6 p.m.

All ceremonies can be seen in high-definition at paducah2.org on Tuesday, May 21.  The ceremonies can be found under the “video” tab on the Web site.

PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) - The Intuitive Collage and Encaustic Collage Classes are  being rescheduled for later this year, according to the Tracey Buchanan Studio.

The class was to be taught by Crystal Neubauer on May 17-18 at Ephemera Paducah.

DUF6 Project gives Hickman school $185,000 in computer equipment

PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) - The DUF6 Project operated by Babcock & Wilcox Conversion Services for the Department of Energy has donated $185,000 worth of excessed used computer equipment to the Fulton County Area Technical Center in Hickman, Ky.

The equipment came from the project’s Paducah plant, and was replaced on the plant’s routine replacement cycle.   A total of 223 items were excessed and donated to the school, primarily used computers and printers. BWCS notified the Computers for Learning program of the General Services Administration that the equipment had been excessed, and Fulton County elected to receive them.

Under the CFL program, federal programs and agencies are encouraged to transfer excessed computers and peripherals directly to registered schools and educational nonprofit organizations. Qualified schools and organizations must register for the program before they are eligible to receive equipment.

Seniors boys, girls regional basketball games set for May 18

GRAVES COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - Graves County will host a senior all-star high school boys’ basketball game at Graves County Middle School at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 18, and a senior all-star girls’ basketball game at 3 p.m.

Coaching the boys’ teams will be Terry Birdsong (Graves County), Bruce Lane (Calloway County), Brian O'Neill (Carlisle County), and Henry Edwards (Hickman County). 

Coaching the girls’ game will be Amy Carrico (Graves County), Ember Wright (Carlisle County), Rechelle Turner (Murray), and Joseph Simmons (Marshall County).

MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY (KFVS) -Heath High School senior Kristi Street and Lone Oak High School sophomore Diane Ikome were selected to receive the Strawberry Hills Pharmacy scholarship to attend the McWhorter School of Pharmacy Bulldog Pharmacy Camp on the campus of Samford University.

Bulldog Pharmacy Camp provides an opportunity for high school students to learn about health careers in pharmacy.

Library media center named for Paducah doctor

Library media center named for Paducah doctor

MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY (KFVS) -  McCracken County Public Schools and Dr. Laxmaiah Manchikanti of the Pain Management Center of Paducah have partnered to name the library media center at McCracken County High School.

The McCracken County Board of Education entered into a five year agreement valued at $25,000 for naming rights to the library media center, which will be known as Manchikanti Library.

"I am honored to have the opportunity to support the educational endeavors of McCracken County Public Schools," said Dr. Manchikanti. "I believe it is an obligation to assist education across the globe. It is part of my overall strategy to help improve education, which goes hand in hand with my development of schools in India and supporting 1,300 students along with providing scholarship support to many students over the years."
