Lone Oak FFA members selected to compete nationally | Schools

MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - The Lone Oak High School FFA chapter was recently selected to compete for national recognition in a career development event at October's 85th National FFA Convention.

The Lone Oak FFA Chapter will send members to Indianapolis as they vie for national honors in the areas of Agriculture Issues Forum and Job Interview. Representing the chapter include Agriculture Issues Forum team members: Natalie King, Kelsey Morris, Shelby Warren and Rachel Willingham, and Job Interview competitor Alex Housman. All students are coached by LOHS agriculture educator Kirby Green.

Agricultural Issues Forum is one of 24 career development event areas, covering job skills in everything from communications to mechanics. FFA members present on a current issue facing agriculture to local community groups prior to competing in the national event. In the presentation both sides of the issues are addressed, allowing audience members to form their own opinions.

According to McCracken County Public Schools, Job Interview is one of 24 career development event areas, covering job skills in everything from communications to mechanics. The event is designed to recognize outstanding FFA members for their ability to prepare and interview for real-world employment opportunities. Part of the preparation includes creating a cover letter, resume, and completing a job application. Participants also show their ability to think on their feet through a networking activity. Both events help students develop the abilities to think critically, communication clearly, and perform effectively in a competitive job market.

The National FFA Organization, formerly known as the Future Farmers of America, is a national youth organization of 540, 739 student members- all preparing for leadership and careers in the science, business and technology of agriculture- as part of 7,489 local FFA chapters in all 50 states, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands.
